Melva Tate, PHR serves as the owner of Tate & Associates, LLC, managing two unique divisions: Strategic HR Partnerships and Strategic Career Advantage, firms offering specialized services in executive human resource consulting, training & development and career coaching. She is a credible activist, professional speaker, serial entrepreneur and networking “Diva”. She spends quality time “Building Relationships where Relations Matter!! With 20+ years of solid industry experience, Melva has established creative ways to infuse her enthusiasm for the field of human resources and career development with her desire to help organizations succeed and employees to land and enjoy the “Job of their Dreams”. Prior to launching her company, she served as the Director of Human Resources & Administration for two start-up organizations: Nexcel Synthetics (fiber manufacturing) and Kelly Construction Company (street and road construction). These evolving environments put her B.S. degree in Human Resource Management, Executive MBA, and Professional in Human Resources Certification (PHR) to the test daily while offering challenging and rewarding experiences. She is a frequent contributor to leading newspapers and magazines including, Birmingham Works Magazine, HR Magazine, Black Enterprise Magazine, The Birmingham News, and the Birmingham Business Journal on issues related to careers, workforce development and human resources. An entertaining presenter and workshop speaker, Melva uses audience engagement techniques that keep participants on the edge of their seat. After each presentation, she gladly accepts each handshake, hug and Facebook friend request with a final appeal - “Let’s Stay Connected”. Melva currently serves as President for the Birmingham Society for Human Resource Management (BSHRM) one of SHRM’s leading chapters with 800+ members. She also serves on the Executive Board for the United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham, Executive Board for Central Alabama Women’s Business Center, Executive Committee (Membership Chair) Region 4 Alabama Workforce Development Council, Diversity Chair – Alabama SHRM State Council, and member of the Diversity Roundtable for the Birmingham Business Alliance (Regional Chamber). Melva’s enthusiasm and eagerness to serve others through her time, talents and resources earned her the Leadership Excellence Award (BSHRM 2008), commendable recognition as one of Birmingham’s “Top 40 Under 40” Professionals (BBJ 2006), Best Minority Business Honoree (BBJ 2009) and Alabama Rose Honoree (2010 CAWBC). Melva lives in Pleasant Grove, Alabama with her husband Daniel (the Scoutmaster), daughter Danielle (the Cheerleader) and Colby James (her adorable 3 pound Yorkbichon). Follow Me:
